BIOGRAPHY

Hong Zeiss (*Taipei) is a conceptual painter living in Vienna.
He studied philosophy in Salzburg and classical figurative sculpture at the University of Applied Arts, as well as textual sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, with Heimo Zobernig. Zeiss was assistant to Sabeth Buchmann. He also collaborated on various projects with the Viennese painter Otto Zitko. Zeiss is the founder of the experimental project "Peer Production", which aims to investigate the cultural value of production in art through exhibitions.

As a result of an intensive theoretical study, especially with Kantian aesthetics, in his painterly work Zeiss examines the sensual effects of nature and how they can be captured through abstraction. They are underpinned by broader philosophical and historical questions about representation, aesthetics, and the autonomy of art.
